Welcome to the Coin Club. We are an assortment of newbies and oldbies, amateurs and experts with questions and answers for oldbies and newbies, amateurs and experts in coin collecting, also known as numismatics. Whether you are just getting started, have been collecting for years or have simply found some old coins about the place that you’d like to sell, this is the place to ask your questions.

No one has all the answers, and you may get five differing answers to the same question, yet each may be right in a manner of speaking, especially if opinions are involved. Opinions often vary. If you receive no answer to your query within 48 hours, please ask again.

I think we should share our highest bids before the auction, and then the one with the lowest agrees not to bid. Then we all win, in the long run!!

What a one Dollar Note would buy in 1967 now takes $17.19 (Q3 to Q3) using the General CPI. Looks like our inflation hasn't been as bad as some other countries with their continuous currency reforms.

Still a little sobering to think that our highest-value note now equates to not much over $5 back then. And likewise, if you kept a $100 note from 1967 and sold it for any less than $1700 now, you might as well have spent it on day 1.

I'd guess the movements in the CPI would mirror that fairly closely, without sitting down and working it all out - or even taking the easy option and trying to Google for it! Would be interesting to see how different the figures would be, if anyone has the resources or the energy to check.

And meanwhile, following our own instructions to "ask again" if no response is received within 48 hours ...
Keen to know more about the "two die varieties" of the 1906-07 Dunedin Tramway tokens (G18) if anyone has details/images pse. I have a few of these tokens in hand but haven't spotted any differences yet. Ditto the two varieties of the Runanga quarter loaf tokens (G90), which seem to be coming onto the market in quite large numbers now.

Details? Or is it a quiz? :-)
There are two versions of the 50c piece in the unc. sets (those previously only recorded for the 1988 50c), and only the type II in the 1984 proof sets so far ... or do you mean something else?

That's quite spectacular - does the "cloud" mark that has obscured the letters in ELIZABETH and extends into the field look like it's recessed into the coin, or is it raised? And is the mark in front of the Queen's nose more of the same, or is that just a mark on the plastic packaging? The effaced letters are certainly interesting, especially in a mint set where you'd expect better quality control.

If the damage is incuse, it could be a delamination flaw, in which a thin sliver of metal has come off the surface of the 5c by the letters ZAB. As close a shot as you can get of that part of the coin would be great - it's a shame it has to stay in the packaging (it should!), but if you pull the wallet out of the outer sleeve that would make the picture a bit clearer, too.

On Nov. 13, the Islamic State for Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a rebel/terrorist group with current dominion over several parts of those two nations announced that it would issue a series of gold, silver and copper coins. The gold and silver coins, to be called dinars, are intended to circulate on the basis of the value of their weight and purity.
How soon will these be on Trade Me?
