Gluten Free Recipes

#Post

If anyone thinks there is hidden gluten in things they eat, even things not specifically labelled "gluten free" like bluebird potato crisps, they can go higher than the company concerned and make a complaint to the correct authorities. There are regulations in NZ that the 7? major allergen sources be listed on every product sold in NZ, even imported food, if they contain them. Not sure what authority to contact as I haven't needed to yet, but there would be fines and repercussions for the company if they falsely misrepresent their food. Hope it makes sense. Cathy

My sister brought me down some sorghum flour aka Juar flour. She picked it up from Khyber Spice Invader at 822 Manakau Road, Royal Oak, for $3.50kg. It makes the most delicious gluten free bread.

Ok Herika Can you tell me what another name for gluten is? I need to know.

I'm a bit embarrassed here Have had an awful week, and I think my fingers got carried away. But this is a thread about gf and not other intolerances and not specifically about what I can and can't eat. It is about substituting gluten for gluten free food. Yes I know some other things can be hard on tender tummies too, but that doesn't necessarily mean gluten contamination. Cathy

Bacon what bacon do you use. I usually use beehive as it says gluten free on the label. But looking at a pack of Home Brand middle rashers, in the allergen advice it said may contain traces of soy, no mention of gluten. At half the price of beehive is it worth lookng at? I have forever been worried about bacon and hams and always opted for brands that had gf on them.

There are several brands of gluten free bacon - I use Verkerks or Beehive

We always had beehive but that seems to be problematic now- as does Hellers (which is now GF) - making us think that there is either a problem with cleaning down machinery - or that my two both have a problem with nitrates!Even freedom farms is GF now.

help with food shopping is there a web site that tells you what foods and brands are gluten free

waimo3 - 2009-07-07 20:02:00
464

yes it is called mfd.co.nz. On there it lists amongst other bacon that is gluten free verkerks and beehive. We are coeliacs and have no trouble with either of those brands. Also msg is fine for many coeliacs so if it doesn't suit herika (as most things don't seem to) then you are must be extra sensitive.A lot of what you say upsets you doesn't affect a lot of gluten free people

Chicken teriyaki sushi the trick is to get just the rice sushi rice - and we use thigh meat marinated in San J terikai sauce. then roast (baste a few times) for 40 minutes. Tastes divine - and sorry if this has been done before. We are having it for tea - adn it is amazing. helps that they are corn fed chook too.
