Snap !! I was there with Quinn on Thursday and am meeting my girlfriend there tonight with Quinn's mother and brother - lol. I love that the water is flowing and clean. The pond at the Halswell Quarry which is 5 minutes from where I live is dirty and horrible and have heard of dogs getting 'duck itch' etc, but because she's a water dog, I can't stop her going in. I have to bring her home and hose her down !!

Too hot outside so think I'll be staying in and doing some cross-stitch today.

Have had a productive day today.

Scrap metal people have been the freezer and some old desks have gone.. Much better now

Have finished sewing Twizzles hat, and attacthed that and ears, nose and mouth.
Knitted the holly leaves and berries. The snow and patch for hat, all attatched.
And have knitted the mittens.

So I have plain knitting to do tonight. In front of tv.

I have oodles of cross stitch stuff, just cant get back into it.. Which is probably a good thing since Ive got alot of toys to do.
Wilf Arrived in Tauranga today and B1anca loves him.

Well as it turned out, I've had a productive day too. It wasn't as hot as I thought so have been out tidying my garden shed and tidying up the area nearby (haven't finished). Lifted some heavy pots so hope I haven't overdone it. Enough for today and will continue tomorrow.

Leaving at 4.30-ish to meet my girlfriend to take dogs for a swim. Tonight I will do my cross-stitch and watch TV. Probably watch Taggart. Wish Midsomer Murders was on.

Theres not much on tv tonight eh.. I like Storage wars on prime. but that takes me to 7-30 and then theres nothing else on that I like.

Its 28 degrees inside here and 29.3 outside.

So a bit too warm to bother with much. Ive put the knitting down till it cools down a bit

Come north to the "summerless north", it's not got above 22 degrees today (nor for the last few days) and it's about 10 days since we saw the sun, at least the wind has eased off, and now it's trying to rain. I should have done some gardening today, but didn't get that far. Trying to tidy the house as I have visitors coming early next week, so I suppose I will have to put my knitting wips away.

Ohhh Id like that much better Kuaka.. Whats the humidity like? Low here at 40%.

Must ask you all, is it hard to learn how to use a circular needle? Im sure I remember my friend using it for plain knitting as in jumpers etc but making the seperate pieces like on normal needles
Its something I never learnt and I think I might like to try.

I have just made my first thing on a circular needle and it was just so much easier than I had anticipated. Only started to really use double pointed needles a couple of years ago and now do all my beanies etc on them and would not go back to straight needles for them. Now I would like to see how the magic loop works will have to find a suitable pattern first.
Been a very nice day - not too hot and managed a bit of knitting this pm as a "relax" then out into the garden. For the past few years I have been growing veges in boxes as have limited area which I could actually dig up for a garden - they are reject packing cases of about 1m square. Was given 3 more last week so have had to dig out a bush to make room for them, it was a rather nice bush but getting a bit woody in the middle. I've cut the bush down to ground level and will be tomorrows exercise to dig out the roots hope they are not too deep!
Now off to continue with the knitting - up to the hood on a jacket for little Miss Italy to wear when she goes back to the Italian winter in a couple of weeks.

I'm a circular needle virgin too. Always looks so hard to me. I have mastered double pointeds with the sock making. Is it harder or easier than that? What is a wip and why do you have to put it away? Kinky much!

armin59 - 2013-02-02 19:42:00
461

I'm pretty new to circulars myself but have knitted socks from the toe up on them using magic loop and the two beanies I did a couple of weeks ago I used the same method.

Popeye - yes they can be used like normal needles also, especially if there are a lot of stitches squashed on normal needles. Of course you can knit a jersey all in one piece up to the armholes, although I've never done it but hope to try it this year.

Armin - I reckon I saw a dog with the same piece of wood that Rose had at the Groynes - Lol.

Haha, not kinky at all - wip = work in progress, and I only have to put them away because there's so many of them, they take up a whole corner of the room where I sit. I just pick one up and work on it as I feel like it, whatever takes my fancy, be it a beanie I'm knitting or a tea cosy or a top I'm doing for me, or a blanket I'm working on - do you get the picture? Kinky no, untidy yes.

Just like an UFO is an unfinished object lol
I've had a very very busy day, it started at 8.30am. We went out to our 20 acres (from here on in will be known as "the estate") to take out 2 fences running along the back boundary. We removed all the wires winding them into rounds of 100metres, we counted 10 rounds, so that was 1km of fencing removed. All because we are having the boundary trees topped next week. They are about 30 feet high (never been trimmed) and they are being topped to about 12 feet. Alot of firewood to cut and split soon :(
Tomorrow we head back to take all the posts out. I cut my finger open and now it is very sore and tender. I'm still not well from the beginning of the week. One lot of blood tests to be done on Monday, and another lot the following Monday. Finished knitting the babies jersey that i posted a photo of the pattern, but am having trouble sewing it up ( hate sewing knitting up and i start loosing interest)

Morning all.. A productive day yesterday.

I have one WIP.. a white wrap I started umm last winter I think it was.. And the sillt thing is, its just in garter stitch. But Im annoyed at it cos the cast on is too tight, and Ive gone too far to undo. So I either have to cast off to make it even. Or forget about it totally and thats a waste of wool.

And just thinking about it, the circular needle would be good for it.

I did a fair bit on twizzle yesterday. I have about 11 pieces left to do. His scarf is in two bits which I find strange. But I love the fact that you knit some holes into it, to make it look moth eaten lol.

Think Ill be having a lazy knit day today. Have to pop up the road but other than that Ill be knitting.

Have been using my e-reader, its sooo good. I looked at cases/ coveres on tm last night. And they are dear, probably cos they have the brand name on them. so Im going to sew one instead. Just something to protect it from dust etc.

Have a good day all, and Pats dont go over doing things.. and watch that finger doesnt turn funny.

Hey all, you have been busy!
Nice to see most are enjoying the weather in different ways.
I have as usual been working on my knitting, a small jersey to stitch, another almost finished, one just begun and my socks - I am two-thirds through the second sock. I find having this many things on the go keeps the monotony away.

Those mentioning circulars and magic loop above - I find them way better than dpns, work progresses faster and no points sticking out everywhere lol.
Search youtube for tutorials - 'verypink' has an excellent one on magic loop socks that I found extremely helpful.
popeye, I also found it difficult to get a good (cheap) kindle cover when I got mine. A helpful trader pointed me to dx.com and I found one there. It cost about $15 all up incl shipping (I think that was free actually).
Love the pics you (all) are putting up.
well off to pick up the needles in between bursts of housework....

:o)

Whiskey, which finger did you cut? I hate that, if it means you can't knit. Ha-ha a funny finger goes with your name. My weird immagination is firing immages of your finger being inappropriate. Anyone got any handcuffs for Kuaka? Just had an idea, knitted handcuffs. A bit of an oxymoron though. Knitting is associated with elderly Nanas (incorrectly of course) and hand cuffs eihter criminal activity or discipline and bondage. Immagination racing again. I wish I could turn my brain down, not off or i would be dead. Bye have to rescue Rose, the big bolshy thing is scared of the vacuum cleaner and Mr is using it. Yes Mr, he does the vacumming around here. Gasp!

I will look online for some tutoring.. Dont have too leave home that way and if I make a mistake no one else will see it lol.

MrP used to do our vaccumming Armin. He does the dishes now tho. Cos he has a broken back, can walk tho. And can stand long enough to do them.
Hes very domesticated. I moved in with him to be his housekeeper. And Married the boss.. Third generation cos my mother and her mother both did it too. lol.

Poor Rose. Our boycat used to love the kirby lol.

Did you think it was Rose? We should meet there sometime, would you like that? Do you ever wonder if people are so nice in person as they appear to be on this thred. On the contrary in some other places I've been on here people behave hideously, like they're on ego trips. I wonder what those people are like in person. Off the track again i go. Wondering too much all the time.

LOL It was my pinky finger on my right hand, and yes it is sore to knit with as i wrap the wool around that pinky finger to give me tention. The cut is between both knuckles exactly were the wool would sit :(

Ouchies Whiskey, I just use the next finger to it for the tension when Ive hurt the little finger.
My middle finger is aching like heck. I whacked it on the edge of the sink when I was cooking tea last night. A whack and stratch. I think ive stretched the tendons or muscles or soemthing. Its worse today than it was last night.
But Im determined to finish Twizzle today. I just have to attatch his scarf, make three bobbles and knit the sack and sock and attatch.

So thats my plans for this lovely wet day. Humid but it feels refreshing too in a way.

Have a good day.

I persevered with the sewing up and it is finally done. (thank god for that lol)
It only took 2 weeks and I'm not happy with it, the collar doesn't sit right and there is suppose to be a third button but it's too high up and makes the collar look worse, so i left it off. The top of the sleeves are sewn too tight and it looks smaller than the size i knitted. So it is a complete flop!!!

Morning all..

Poppelles I hope you manage to find some buttons...

Twizzle will be finished by lunchtime. Just have a little sewing to do. Namely the stocking and sack. Have to then darn and sew patches on. The poor thing is covered in patches darns and holes lol.

Have to take MrP to drs at lunchtime. He has a rash on his legs. I think it might be cellulitis, probably brought on from using the garden spray without wearing long pants.

Then I will have to have a ponder through the patterns books and see what I feel like knitting next. Im tampted to have two things on the go, maybe a wee singlet and booties and a toy. The toys give me variation but I fancy knitting something tiny too.

Have a good day all

Hi, I was thinking, (oh no you all say) the wip, work in progress if we add the H so wip now becomes whip, because of course we need a whip to finish our wips. We can have'
Work happily in progress,
Work hopefully in progress
Work hideously in progress
Work horrically in progress
Work hardly in progress
Work hastily in progress

Well this crazy person is off to knitgroup soon, I wonder if I should take my boob hat to show them? Hmm , why not.

I was right re MrP he has a rash from the weed spray... So have some lotion to put on him.

Wow! I just sold five of my stuff to one person and one hat to another. ha-ha to my buddies at knit group, they said my pink flower hat was yuck because the flower was too big. I only listed it yesterday and it sold already. Big fat skite, am I not? I thought someone with a brand new precious baby girl might like a hat with a huge pink flower that boldy states I'm a girl. look at me. Has anyone made a ten stitch blanket with short row corners? Did it work well? Bye, love to all my knit wit buddies.

armin59 - 2013-02-05 22:02:00

I tried the ten stitch blanket, but very quickly got bored with it and unravelled what I had done. It was only about the size of an A4 sheet of paper, and I was bored out of my brain by then.

What is a 10 stitch blanket?
Is there a craze going round I dont know about?

whiskey13 - 2013-02-05 22:51:00
499

It's available on ravelry. Just search for 10 stitch blanket, it's by Frankie Brown. I know I printed the pattern off, but I can't find it. Basically you cast on 10 stitches and stocking stitch a few rows, then you do a short row corner, by working (from memory) 1 or 2 stitches less, till you only have 1 or 2 stitches on the needle, then you work the other half of the corner till you have 10 stitches again, then you work a few more rows and do another corner, then you do a few more rows and you work into the edge of the original piece of knitting as you do this so that there's no sewing up. You just keep knitting on these 10 stitches, working corners and going round and round making the square bigger and bigger. I found it a pain in the bum. The pattern is free. I think I probably biffed my copy when I decided I didn't like knitting it. It looks nice when finished, but it's not my type of project.

Morning everyone..

The 10 stitch blanket sounds good. I have a magic square blanket that mum made. When she finished and she gave it to me she said to treasure it cos she woyuldnt be making another one lol. Its laying on my wooden rocking chair.
Armin congrats on yoru sales. Its nice to prove people wrong eh... I have two watchers on twizzle so hopefully someone will bid.
I started Bertie Bloomer last night for MrP.. Ill almost gaurantee he will say nooo you sell it when its finished lol
Cooler here this morning. I love it.

Have a nice Waitangi day everyone.. And be productive
