Any help appreciated. My 8 years old 50” Samsung tv began showing fault with several lines down one end of screen. 6 years old so not a worry.
Now it has just ‘died’ - no red light - no nothing. Checked plug, cable which are fine.
May be time to change but any thoughts about this would be nice to hear.

If the capacitors in the power supply are bulging, they need replacing, for about $7 from Jaycar.

My 20 yr old Panasonic is still happily going with no faults.

If it's only 6 years old I'd be going the CGA route.

Confusing? What I was trying to say was the tv, when 6 years old, began to have lines down right hand side of screen.
We have watched it with not much distraction from those lines for 2 years.
Total age 8.
Anyone can pick this up free….. I am replacing it. Thanks for replies.

You should have gotten it fixed or replaced at the 6yr stage. You could have very likely had a good case under the CGA and got it sorted for no cost

Thanks for your comment but after 6 years - with no extended warranty taken out - I am at a loss how I could have expected that?

You wouldn't have needed an extended warranty, under the Consumer Guarantee Act an appliance is expected to last for a reasonable period. A reasonable period for a tv is 7 to 8 years. Therefore at 6 years old the retailer would have been obliged to fix or replace the tv at no cost to you.

DON'T buy extended warranties they're a waste of money. The CGA protects you well.
