#Post

There doesn't seem to be a thread for this, does anyone know if I can get captions on 'On Demand' TV ?? I can get them on Netflix, and have them on my Free to Air programs, but can't get them on "On Demand'. Apologies for wrong thread.

From what I read, there is usually a CC button on the bottom right of the media player

I've been struggling with this too .
We watch all our TV on the smart TV using apps. In the TV settings we can turn on subtitles for streaming content.
The TVNZ app has quite a lot of programmes with subtitles.
The Threenow app subtitles don't work. It seems you can get subtitles if you watch regular broadcast Three but we have no broadcast TV here.
I have written to channel Three asking for their help but they have not bothered to reply.

there is an app for On Demand, my children (or grandchildren) taught me, I press the 'Home' button on the smart TV remote and a list of ?? thingies appear. one of them says On Demand. BUT it doesn't have captions. Bother. I think yours might be slightly different ?

Do you get subtitles on any of the programmes you watch On Demand?
If you get none at all you may need to go into your TV settings and find the bit called 'Accessibility' or something like that. in that menu there will be settings for Subtitles or Captions. In there you can turn them on and change what they look like. It might be worth googling your model of TV to see how exactly to do it

I haven't watched any programs On Demand because I can't hear them. I can get captions on Free to Air and Netflix. I'll try Googling the TV too, that's a good idea. And get the nerdish grandson around too. Oh the complications of modern technology . many thanks everyone. Out of interest, has ANYONE managed to get captions on On Demand ?????

Ok, I've had a look on my TV for you. If I use the app called Freeview On Demand, then, yes, I can get subtitles on some programmes. I picked Hawaii 5-0 at random and it does have subtitles. I a button on my remote that has a logo that looks like a TV screen with little dots along the bottom. This is the 'subtitle' button. When I pressed this it came up with the subtitles.
If you want to tell me the actual programmes you like to watch I could check for you because, as I said before, not all programmes come with subtitles and not all programmes that have subtitles when watching live have them when watching through apps.

Oh that was so nice of you kateley, I have to admit that I wrecked the viewing and it said no signal and I had snow and hissing noises ! So I looked at it in despair and went on pressing buttons and Lo and Behold it suddenly came back on and I have been scared to do anything ever since.... I think I will wait until the weekend when the Nerd Grandchild is available and let him loose. My remote seems to be different, so many thanks for your time and thoughtfullness.

you're welcome, fendie. I have the advantage of a nerd son and we have quite often been on video chat while he talks me through what I need to do

He's a very useful chap, ferrit. Knows a lot about cars and electronics - not my areas of expertise.

Hi kateley, my Nerdish grandson came around (now we are in level 3 I can expand my bubble) and showed me, not a lot of programs On Demand seem to have captions, but I can work them now . um I think ................... Perhaps I had better practise , he sighs heavily.
