#Post

I dont really know Blenheim that well but my family are thinking about moving down there. What are the best areas and what areas are best avoided? Thanks

We just bought a lovely home in Renwick. 15 km from Blenheim, lovely little rural looking community of 2.500 population. Looking forward to the move in a few months.

I own a property in Blenheim but have never lived there. Even purchased without viewing or even visting (was not even introduced to the agent but that's another story). Since then I have visited several times and love the place. My observation is that there are no bad areas per se but probably small pockets to avoid. That said, some of those pockets are very close to the CBD on large sites and in other centres would have been redeveloped years ago.

It depends on your budget where to buy. To live I would buy slightly out of town perhaps at Rarangi and to invest, a 1000m2 plus site close to town.

The locals are super friendly and 5.00 on'clock traffic is about 5 cars in a queue.

I was born in Blenheim and lived there for 7 years, then we moved to Woodbourne until I was 12 and went to school at Renwick. Planning my first trip back there next year after 45 years. They were just starting to plant grapevines for the wineries :-)
FWIW we lived in Springlands which seemed great to a 7 year old!

Blenheim. Happy memories of the Wine Festival. Really nice wineries down there.

I grew up in Blenheim and lived in Fairhall, Woodbourne and Rapaura. I’d avoid Mayfield and the area around Budge Street.

Nelson is the best part of Blenheim to buy in.

Yes.. Blenheim is a nice city to live and work in.. as stated Mayfield , Hutchinson street, Budge street / NMIT area are the "less desirable" parts of town...
If you are looking at perhaps building a new home there are a couple of subdivision currently on the go.. but a small city does not equal small prices !!
If you are unable to cope with roundabouts, have an inherent dislike of the wine industry, no drivers licence therefore reliant on a bus service... then perhaps Blenheim will present a problem to you.

If you are into shopping / malls etc then you'll have to be prepared to join the crowd of people who trip over to Nelson for a days shopping or Christchurch for a weekend of shopping, but if your level of shopping sophistication peaks at a K Mart, then you'll be happy !!

If you have Kids that are 17 plus and want to further their education also enjoy big shows forget Blenheim . . Its still got a small town attitude and lack of amenities .

If you are white bread you will fit in nicely , good climate but too conservative.

LOL ....'bread'. Kind of falls a bit flat when you use the wrong spelling. Or were you meaning as opposed to multigrain, wheat or fancy sourdough bread?

I believe "bread" is the correct spelling for the context of flynn99's comment.

Maybe he means that Blenheim is "damper" than other areas?

It's sad though if the poster doesn't think they'll fit into the kulcha.
