I have some heavy thermal blackout fabric for bedroom curtains. Do I measure each drop twice the wiindow width or two and a half times? I will post this in parents too as I am hoping to start on them this morning..

Well that all depends on what sort of heading you are planning to use and how full you want the curtains to be. If I'm using gathering tape I always allow at least twice the width, usually 2.5 times. If I'm doing French pleats and pleating them myself, then I use twice the width.

The drop will be the height from track to floor/window ledge, PLUS enough for hemming at top for curtain tape and to cover track, and at the bottom to cover window ledge, or just touch floor.
The width required will be approx twice the window measurement to allow for gathering. i.e. if I want to put a lace curtain on a window and the window is 2.5 m wide [2500 cm] then I would get 5m remembering lace curtain is different as it usually doesn't require hemming, and tape is already added.
You can see when you buy packaged curtains they stipulate what width windows they will fit. So the thinking is done for you. They are also taped and hemmed, although you may need to shorten them.

Thank you everyone - I will go 2.5 width and extend my curtain track each side so I have as much window exposed when the curtains are opened.
