Here’s the other one you started. Not sure what happened to the original one???

I woke up this morning to find someone had parked their van and caravan in our street and was quite obviously sleeping in it. It’s now been brought up onto the grass council verge outside one property that is rented.....I am giving him the benefit of the doubt being Easter weekend and all but yeah it better not be permanent- especially given the fact there is a motor camp not that far away......just my blardy luck eh! ????

At least they are highly unlikely to be boomers or 'aged' people, who dare to receive a pension after working their entire lives - much better to have derelicts who have never worked a day in their life living in emergency housing, because they are so hard done by, receiving a benefit their entire life, they can't afford to buy a house.

So now they are on your doorstep, which would you prefer? lol

How do you know they have never worked?

lol I don’t see it like that. I see it that the policies of the last 30 years have led to this and we all know who voted for those. It’s a case cause and effect.

I mean good on Todd for raising the latest issue but seriously? Can he not see that his party was largely to blame?

These homeless people are the ones who previously were living in portacabins, garages, and caravans on their families properties and now even that’s untenable. As for the PM saying they aren’t sending them here, maybe not, but the word is out amongst the homeless themselves. Come here and you will be put up in a motel and all services provided including food. So they are coming here of their own volition. Just one big holiday. I don’t know why they can’t be taking busloads of these people over to pick fruit. Well I do, many of them have addiction problems. The whole situation is a very sad state of affairs really and I am not surprised by it.

Where will all these people go now? Answer? There isn’t one.

some of them definitely would have, but maybe they got chucked out of their state house and their spiral downhill started from there....I don’t know why people are all so dumbfounded by this. I said it years ago didn’t I? I said we cannot keep marginalising people as eventually we will create a group of people who have nothing to lose. That’s why crime happens. It’s not rocket science and VERY hard to ever reverse.

Perhaps he has room at his place

If only people would invest their time and money in providing rental properties instead of buying overseas share funds.
But no...

Be careful what you say - it may be considered 'contentious' and 'upset and/or offend' other members and then you will get a ticking off oops no a removal notice from TMe.

Pre-Covid the offending Freedom Campers were generally identified as young foreigners travelling the country - perhaps picking up some seasonal/casual work. From my observations, most of these have long left the country. So .... what demographic has moved into the current echelon of 'freedom campers'??? There don't seem to be as many of the 'van' type vehicles occupied by younger people with a mattress in the back about the place - but there are a lot more caravans and campers that don't have fixed holding tanks which can hold a decent volume of waste.

You claim to have a big house; why not share it with a homeless family ?

there are 3 people living in my house and I work from home, so not suitable.

Why don’t you offer your place up? You’ve got the room? No?

I'd be surprised if you don't have a notepad full as you do appear fixated by Lakeview3. Is it a crush or envy?

Good point, there is a lot of 'let's ban, or add rules and red tape, and stop people doing stuff that hurts nobody but might even help somebody ....'.

Since this is a real estate board, feel free to check out the rules around rentals these days. Start with the Residential Tenancies Act but don't stop there.

And a glance at the social housing waiting list and the number of households in emergency housing.
