| Had a disaster yesterday, thought computer died over night wouldn't start, so went to use backup on External drive on Windows10 PC, flossy63 - 2021-03-23 09:32:00 |
| does it happen to ALL your excel files or just the one? as for the different versions of the file, if you put the mouse over each it should pop up the file name and size. Is the size the same on the ext and SD. Sometimes when making copies you can copy a shortcut to a file, rather than copying the file itself... king1 - 2021-03-23 09:48:00 |
| It's all my excel files, files are not copied, they are saved to drives and SD cards, flossy63 - 2021-03-23 10:07:00 |
| have we tried restarting the computer? do that first then you could try and run the repair option for office, same place where you might uninstall it king1 - 2021-03-23 10:21:00 |

| * Repair * - not uninstall... king1 - 2021-03-23 10:51:00 |
| Ok sorted, cannot go directly into files, but can get in there around the bush Lol!, Hopefully Nice_lady may come along and shed some light on the problem?, flossy63 - 2021-03-23 11:05:00 |
| yes, Nice_lady is very knowledgeable king1 - 2021-03-23 11:12:00 |

| did you try the repair? king1 - 2021-03-23 16:20:00 |

| Does it not open when trying to double click on the document. Does it open if you open excel first then select file, open, select the document. loud_37 - 2021-03-23 18:19:00 |
| flossy63 wrote: The application (Excel) should be installed on your local C: drive. Create a folder on C: called 'Excell.DAT' as save EVERY Excel file in there (with their own groups/folders). Then regularly copy the folder to your external backup drive, unplug that drive and lock it somewhere away from your PC where a given problem can't get at both devices. Things to consider are: fire, water ingress, theft. If you need an external drive to transport your work to another PC then buy a second one. tegretol - 2021-03-23 18:25:00 |
| Because it's looking for the info elsewhere....thats a bad explanation...but it's all intertwined with where (on C:) the libs etc are stored, not to mention registry and stuff. The horrible way windows manages its software. lythande1 - 2021-03-23 19:27:00 |
