Old tech, that is still update supported?

#Post

Just curious. Does anyone have some old tech that is still regularly supported with software updates? Just got me thinking because a lot of my stuff, that I don't really regard as old has reached end of life for support and updates.

My oldest was a 20 year old radar detector that still could be firmware updated (at a cost though) just ended last year. They finally insist you buy a new one instead.

I never worried about updates since 1984 when I first started in IT.
SPs, yes, updates, no.
And in all the years of seeing infected machines, fully updated, it never helped.
Common sense and 3rd party protection is far more important. Especially the former.

That new hack on microsoft exchange, needs patching to protect it (not much point having a mail server that doesn't face the internet ) Code red worm 15 or so years ago. Theres plenty of excellent reasons to install updates.
Basically everything has a EOL for support in tech because it keeps changing so much its just a waste of resources for makers to to support a huge range of products, sanity has to prevail.

I am still using computers which are probably now considered old, which are still very usable and receive updates by using alternative operating systems to Windows.

I don't like to chuck stuff away which is still going fine.

old is five years - yours are probably closer to ancient...

Maybe almost vintage?
