i used to use an app called blacklist plus that allowed blocking numbers using wildcards, so you could set it to block any calls from +44 numbers.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available now, but i'm sure there will be similar ones on the play store, assuming android...

or if your brave and don't mind side loading its available here

That's okay for cell phone calls but not everyone has number recognition on a landline. I get all of my scam calls on my landline, never had any on my mobile.

I am keen to get some scam calls to waste the scammers time a bit. First though I would need to set up a virtual machine or burner machine (with a backup of the drive), and a VPN. Maybe a fake bank account website as well.

Unfortunately I don't have a landline anymore so can't get any scam calls.

Just let the call go to answerphone and if important someone will leave a message.

Scammers DO call mobiles. Just wait your turn.

I have had some calls from England on my mobile, which is prepay. I assume that they are scams or fakes as I know no one in Leeds (I think it's Leeds; anyway, I know no one from wherever it is)

The fake calls to the landline seem to have stopped (I hope I'm not tempting fate by saying this) and I haven't had any to the mobile for ages...fingers crossed....

Could be long lost uncle Billie's lawyers trying to offload his millions on ya.

Best way to stop most of them if not all is by getting rid of your landline. The landline era is coming to an end anyway so there's no point holding on to the past. Most people who have a landline also have a cell phone so it's pointless to pay for 2 phone systems and the cellphone is generally a cheaper option.

gven you know nothing about the OPs circumstances this a nonsense response and misinformation. They might have an alarm dialler on it, St Johns medical alarm, elderly/sick relatives that only use a landline - there's plenty of reasons folks still keep a landline... the landline might not even be the problem, i used to get a lots of spam calls on my mobile.

more reasons some folks keep a landline...
- for business
- call quality is better
- faster emergency service response times, given it ties to a physical address

probably others...

My phone costs a tiny amount, and I can't only have a mobile here because reception's so patchy. Mine's prepay and I only use it when I am out, mainly to call for a taxi. My landline calls cost nothing except for overseas ones. Getting rid of the landline is not an option for me, or for a lot of people. I have no wish to have to stand at the gate (or by the front door if I'm lucky) whenever I want to use the phone.

I was surprised to have obvious spam calls on my mobile, as it's prepay and I so seldom use it; I don't know how the spammers get the numbers.

My cell is prepay as well and I had a run of scam calls a few years back offering me very well paid jobs in Canada. I just blocked the numbers along with some not so nice local people lol.
