5 | There are many new housing areas and single section developments similar. One single garage is not adequate for families today. The reasoning is they are built with the thought that people will use public transport. Maybe in the future but this will not be viable now as the infrastructure for this is not yet in place. The section size also means the second car parks in the drive sometimes hindering the footpath and any other car parks on the street. Have seen some streets where the cars are parked on the road with the inside wheels on the footpath as that is the only way to let traffic then use the road. This is the councils planning stupidity and the developers greed for more units on site. They are still trying to please the people by having their own seperate unit. Only a few upmarket developments have several stories of decent size units with basement garaging. You have to go to Uni and get degrees so you can then plan with no common sense . pisces47 - 2021-02-09 08:15:00 |

9 | New house builds should have UNDERGROUND Garaging, sized to be the whole footprint of the house. How awesome would that be! Many countries do it. The state of Iowa in the US allows basements the size of the house and don't count them in the square footage. They are just normal cavernous useful spaces. Well for what it's worth, the parking here causes me a lot of stress most days frequently due to the behaviour of my neighbours (like the guy who lives down the road who parked one of his cars outside my house for 5 weeks - he had builders in - and refused to move it to any one of a number of spaces closer to his house because his wife would 'need it when she got back'. This despite the fact I very obviously had a new baby & toddler to heard across the road together with the assorted hundreds of things they inevitably need simply to leave the house. Thanks neighbour you're a great guy Or they manage like my other neighbour who runs an air bnb, has 6 off street parking places/garages and has on his instructions that you can't park on the property you. must park on the street. Another fabulous neighbour Or they manage like some people do and when the council proposes to put electric car chargers on the street they apply for one outside their house & go and buy a shiny new electric car and get an effectively privatised car parking space (or two)! 14 | Yes houses should have more carparks but the planning requirements for driveways are so restrictive and wasteful of space. The minimum turning radius (wide enough to turn a bus in one movement) often means only one park can be built where two are possible. And the requirements for shared driveways, which can save heaps of space, are worse. masturbidder - 2021-02-09 14:41:00 |

20 | Reminds me of the issue we had for 3 years. New tenants moved in over the road and on the first night they had parked 2 car transporters with stock cars on them, one each side of the road. They had 3 isuzu bighorns along with a ford falcon, another run down piece of crap and 1 work van. There were only 3 of them at this stage. A couple of months passed and then another daughter of there's with a teenage son who had 2 cars along with the mothers 1 car decided they wanted to live there also. What we ended up with was all there crap parked on the street with no room outside our own properties. They also used the road as a mechanics workshop and would leave friends cars on jacks for a couple of days while they stole parts from somewhere. gazvic - 2021-02-09 19:18:00 |

24 | Another build across the rd-5 double ensuites and no carparks at all. Luckily, standing empty for now. They built 5 of those standalone houses, no garden space at all-coming from the mentality of the country that maximises the house space and doesn't value outdoors... evoalg - 2021-02-09 21:22:00 |

Traditionally the garage has been the area to store all that 'other ' stuff that is needed on a regular basis, eg kids (and adults) bikes. lawnmower, ladder, mens misscellanous bits and pieces and 'toys' etc. But unfortunately the powers that be are trying to change the way we live from being a dyi /fix it culture to a call the 'professional??' culture so no need for lawn mowers, ladders, fix it tools etc.And as far as fitness and recreation - well get a club and gym membership, hire your bike, kayak when you need them and use a guide or tour company to organise outings and activities. ie adventure tourisim Edited by brouser3 at 4:41 pm, Wed 10 Feb brouser3 - 2021-02-10 16:38:00 |

Now the road outside our house is lined with cars, presumably the '2nd household car' plus visitors. Our house has just the one garage and we were accustomed to parking one car on the street.(4 laned.) Now we sometimes have to park in a street some distance away, as do any visitors as the available street space is lined with cars from the apartments. schnauzer11 - 2021-02-12 23:38:00 |
31 | Interesting thread of entitlement. In essence, people don't want cars parked on their street, so the spaces are free for them to park on the street? Or they think new builds should be forced to include more parking, making them cost more, simply so there are fewer cars to look at / drive past on their street. Bigger picture, this kind of build increases density making public transport more viable, makes driving private vehicles less attractive, and brings housing to market cheaper than it otherwise might have been. All good results. The outcomes of this are great for society, and inconvenient for individuals. citydude - 2021-02-13 06:25:00 |

34 | There's an apartment block going up near me where there'll be less parks than apartments. The parking consultant they brought in from Nelson to make their case took photos of our and other streets nearby with few cars on them - and lied about when they were taken (easy to tell because the shadows were in the wrong place for the supposed time of day, and the road was dry when it would have been wet on that day (or vice versa, I forget which now)). We already have parking wars between hospital workers and residents, and it will only get worse. luteba - 2021-02-13 14:04:00 |
