That's rather cute. I am going to knit one. I didn't even know there were such things.

I didn't either until I saw someone using one and it gives that extra cover for any leakage.

And also doesn't look like plastic.

would these be knit in wool or preferably in acrylic yarn for ease of washing. Sue

It's amazing how easily washable many wools have become. Personally I would go for a suitable wool. Has lots of beneficial qualities including kindness to the skin (ie the bare legs which will probably rub against it).

Just google knitted diaper cover - you will have a greater choice than you ever thought possible - and most look very simple.

Looks like a Pilcher pattern from a 1940s knitting pattern. My mother used them for us. over our cloth nappies.

Okay for babies, but I have horrid memories of knitted gym shorts in Intermediate, and they were the school uniform, not a family choice.

Even worse were the woollen swimsuits that were the required uniform when I started high school. Fortunately nylon swimsuits were just coming in and enough of us girls rebelled against the woollen ones so that the school gave in.

if you want it to support the function of the cloth nappy you would want to knit it in wool and preferably raw wool which still contains some lanolin (or add lanolin after knitting) ... but if you just want cute factor and easy wear for baby acrylic would be ok.
