In Wellington the trellis at the top of the fence is to be measured as part of the permitted height of the fence. So if the permitted height is 1.8m then the trellis is to be within that 1.8m and not additional to it so not 1.8m plus 30cm.

Not sure about treehouses but wouldn't that be adults speaking to adults about privacy issues. Surely an adult helping a child build a treehouse could make sure it has no window spaces on a side where there could be privacy issues.

Re who owns what and who walks or drives where...you need to look at the plans and the titles and search any memorials on the titles.

The land title is the definitive record of who owns or has an interest in what. Errors do occur, but are rare.

I doubt there is a rule about tree houses, I just go up on the roof with the binoculars to look in the neighbor's behind and beside and i can see in a few across the road as well.

fences can go to under 2.5 without consent. 1.8 is a reference in the fencing act for a standard fence interpretation.

Wrong - depends on District Plan rules. For example where I live max is 2m and 1.8m if the fence runs along a roadline. And 2.1m max for a fence on top of a retaining wall.

There may also be a Fencing Agreement.

A few years back there was an article in the Otago Daily Times saying councils wanted to limit fence heights as a “safety” issue as the council minions had decided at their recent national conference that too many burglars were getting up to mischief once they got past the fence and were out of public view.
Could be wrong but think at the time the street side fence was to be no more than 1.4 metres.
Not sure whether it got past the proposal stage.
Get enough nosy people looking over the fence now .
