Not really a computer question...

But.....I thought there's a good chance all you smart people might provide me with an answer. :)
In thinking of buying this GPS cat tracking collar. https://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/dogs/collars-leads/au

Now it says it only works on 2g. What restrictions will this cause? Will it simply work in most urban areas? If the area is 3/4G will it also work? Am I right in thinking most areas have progressed past 2G? And if so, does that render this obsolete? Thank you in advance.

I doubt the cat wants to make phones calls so voice won't be needed anyway.

Vodafone has said they'll support 2g data out until at least 2025 but the problem is they are the only option so you're stuck paying whatever rates they want to charge.

lol good point. Planning a purchase around a sunset technology doesn't seem like a good idea though, especially, as you say, when Voda are the only remaining option...

The modern equivalent protocol is CAT-M1.

It isn't a huge investment if it can be used for 5 years. The cat might not last that long depending on its age anyway.
