Another question from a computor dummy.....
I wish to access the Word Pad on my computor - I understand it runs
on Windows 8 (whatever that means)..
On the bottom of screen there is a 'magnifying glass' which I have been told should bring up a search bar - mine does not bring up anything.
Any advice from anyone?

A single left click should open a small panel you can type into.

Right-click on the Start button, choose 'Run' and type in Wordpad and then press the Enter key

Try clicking on the start menu, then click on Accessories, and then Wordpad should be there.

right mouse click/ new/ short cut/ browse/local disk (Which ever had the windows install on it)/windows/ system32 / "Write" ..... ok.
Next/ type in a name/ finish.
Then you can pin it to the task bar if you want to.

You will also find Notepad in the same area/folder

Or Start/ all programs/ accessories/ wordpad/ notepad, for single usage

One question to the original poster, why WordPad?

Microsoft bundle WordPad into every version of Windows back 20 years or more, but it is really just a free app so you can view a file or type a quick document in rich text if you really don't have anything else better.

These days, really unusual for somebody to choose to use WordPad as it has almost no features, so you better off to use something online like Google Docs or download a proper word processor like Libre Office.

WordPad is a proper word processor. It's just got less features than a lot of others. But if you are only going to write letters, or similar stuff without lots of fancy crap it's absolutely fine for that.

If you take a look at it you'll see it's actually got A LOT of functionality.

Wordpad is pretty good, it is really fast. More complicated programmes are a lot slower.

I often use notepad or the linux equivalent for small notes.

Since MS first introduced Wordpad, it's had a lot of extra tools added.
It is now literally a mini version of MS Word.
