Lining a keepsake box

1 | I have made a wooden keepsake box as 21st present and was thinking of lining it with crushed velvet. Just wondering if i can glue the velvet to the wood or will the glue go right through and just make the material hard? Has anyone tried doing this, any advice appreciated. farmer47 - 2020-11-19 07:31:00 |
2 | Make cardboard panels to fit each section, wrap the crushed velvet around to the back of each piece and glue on the back, then glue each panel in separately, with the bottom one going in last. articferrit - 2020-11-19 13:31:00 |
3 | Thanks Articferrit sounds good will give it a try. Have used felt as a lining for a couple of others but thought velvet might look better for this one. farmer47 - 2020-11-19 19:42:00 |
4 | I was given one for my 21st, a carved camphorwood box with the padded lining done just that way. It was satin quilted, with a tiny pearl in each of the quilt stitched corners. I still have it all those decades later... Lovely thing. oh_hunnihunni - 2020-11-19 22:03:00 |

What an excellent idea; wish I'd thought of doing that when I lined one! Thank you for sharing starseeker - 2020-11-20 14:41:00 |
6 | Just be aware that sometimes colours in velvet run if they get damp. voyager4 - 2020-11-24 10:32:00 |

9 | If you use cotton velvet it would be better as it’s not stretchy. lakeview3 - 2020-12-12 19:51:00 |

11 | I had some stiff sheets of felt so used that to glue the velvet to. The panel idea has come up really well, it looks great. Thanks people for your tips and comments. farmer47 - 2020-12-27 09:03:00 |
