Email on HP Laptop

#Post
1

I have an HP laptop which I bought about a year ago with programms pre-installed. Can anyone tell me please how I would find what the email programme is? (i.e. Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. etc.) the reason is that I can hover over it to open it but I can't KEEP it open. This in turn happened while I was doing something else and inadvertantly said "yes" when it asked me if I wanted to do domething but I cannot recall what I did. Other than using go-back, is there any way to do a diagnostic check/ fix the programme, expecially when I have no idea what it's called? Thanks- in advance..

prob the easiest way is to see what your default email program is. open the settings (click the window's button and select the gear icon, search for default apps)
this will telly you what the default email program is

describe the icon that you hover over, it can be identified by that. sounds like you may have inadvertently changed the default app

Hi 'step'. Did that to discover my mail programme is 'mail'..? Further investigation however showed that it's likely 'Outlook Office 365' so googled that and found some info. I guess that for years on my desktop, I'd used a regular version of Outlook that looked and felt more substantial so it's taking a bit of getting used to this new version of outlook that is comparitively less intuitive to use (or at least I think it is).

And king1, it's taken me a bit of organising myself to get to this point whereas a quick 'what' response to the 'Pebkac' was a lot easier/ quicker.

And I'm still in the dark as to what the %£& a 'Pebkac' is?

"mail' is the inbuilt windows mail app. It's NOT Microsoft Outlook or '365'. They are different 'apps' entirely.

Why be in the dark over anything you have Google and the internet at your fingertips, the greatest information resourse ever in the history of humanity - literally at your fingertips.

Google 'pebkac'.

Should take about 5 seconds to get your answer.

<Rant mode on>
I must say I was disappointed about the pebkac thing. prob a troll but really. If someone ask's a question it is because they don't know the answer and insulting them is not helping and will make people less likely to as in the future. Better to teach them

Johnb I am guessing the message you clicked ok to was telling you that the mail was being reset to the default app (in this case Microsoft Mail) I've see that in the past, especially after an update.
Hope all settled now...

Guessing isn't that well targeted quite often. Crystal balls round here get worn out very fast.

Troll ? Nah - take a walk. I don't need to be advised as to how to respond to anything.

Pebkac is simply a fact in many cases.

Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair is what it stands for,
You can install and use another email program if you prefer. You don't need to accept whatever has been recommended or forced on you.

Thunderbird for instance.
Or if using gmail for instance, use your browser to login to their webserver and read, create email that way...
