14 | Its tempting to do a reinstall, but im trying to learn from this lol linux sucks when things break! nzoomed - 2020-06-29 17:10:00 |
15 | I have had not much luck with Debian. Despite it supposed to be the most stable and conservative, it seems to be unstable and keeps hanging on things. I've had the best luck with Xubuntu, I am using Ubuntu studio at the moment as I do music recording. tygertung - 2020-07-02 14:29:00 |
16 | Is it possible to instal Linux on an expired desktop, I mean one that has had to many system restores and now not supported.? I am more interested in just having a play and seeing if I like it. Edited by 5425 at 11:41 am, Wed 11 Nov 5425 - 2020-11-11 11:38:00 |
17 | yes, its only the windows license that is 'End of Support' - which means still works fine but no more security updates. Further to that, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to install win 7 on the machine and get it to activate, as long as the license key is legit, windows can be downloaded online. You can even upgrade to windows 10 if the specs aren't to bad... king1 - 2020-11-11 11:49:00 |
18 | https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7 I probably wouldn't encourage using win7 now , but if you can get it installed and use it to uprade to 10 it might be worthwhile... certainly try out linux as well though... 19 | Try Lubuntu. It looks like Windows 10, but is much faster. tygertung - 2020-11-11 12:01:00 |

You could also try Linux Zorin OS. Also works really well on slightly older machines as well. I have had it running experimentally for several months on a Lenovo socket 775 unit, E8400 cpu, 8 GB ram. No problems so far. Edited by namtak at 6:07 pm, Wed 11 Nov namtak - 2020-11-11 18:03:00 |

Definitely having a play around with that... king1 - 2020-11-13 20:35:00 |
