Birth certificate question

| I have a birth certificate from 1923 (someone else got it) - but I cannot find the record for it when I search online through Ancestry..... any ideas? Also is it possible to look at the 1926 census anywhere? Where would a young lady in those times have given birth to an illegitimate child - in a hospital or at home? No father listed on the birth certificate.... have a dna test coming from Ancestry that I hope will give some leads. arcane1315 - 2019-12-05 17:43:00 |

| Rochford Swainson Smith?? - born 8 June 1923, Woolston, Christchurch - mother Elizabeth Jane Smith he later changed his surname to Hamilton - don't know if that makes any difference to searches? arcane1315 - 2019-12-05 18:33:00 |
| Oh - never mind.... I would delete this thread but can't figure out how to LOL. Have found a social workers report in files here and it lists the father!! YAY :) arcane1315 - 2019-12-05 19:22:00 |
| Just for future reference, there is a 100 year embargo on the index of births. So births after today 1919 won't turn up in a search, but you can contact DIA and order it if you know enough details. rednicnz - 2019-12-05 21:20:00 |
