| Is uploading a tree from the FTM program to Ancestry.com, the same as synchronizing? ironthrone990 - 2019-10-14 21:34:00 |
| I would think so. I got my family trees into FTM by synchronizing them from ancestry. landylass - 2019-10-14 22:13:00 |
| Thanks landylass, I thought so. :-) ironthrone990 - 2019-10-15 07:38:00 |
| Just to clarify - uploading/downloading a tree from FTM to Ancestry is one way. Syncing is when you have already uploaded/downloaded a tree and is linked. During sync, it compares the tree on Ancestry with the Tree in FTM and makes the necessary adjustments. Hint - it is advisable to work in one OR the other between syncs eg. work in FTM then sync to Ancestry or vice versa. Don’t work in both between syncs or you may corrupt the file in FTM and end up having to go through the whole download process again. nandag - 2019-10-15 11:32:00 |

| nandag, can I ask how the adjustments are made when syncing the FTM tree with Ancestry? Does Ancestry ask for confirmation before making any adjustment? I have a huge amount of information in both so I'm rather nervous about syncing. Also I'm no longer a paying member of Ancestry so is there any advantage in syncing apart from putting the information out there on Ancestry to help other descendants? deecee2 - 2019-10-25 16:52:00 |
| No, Ancestry doesn’t ask for confirmation but you can download the Sync Log (to view the changes that will be made) before you click to continue with the sync. Edited by nandag at 5:27 pm, Fri 25 Oct nandag - 2019-10-25 17:25:00 |

I wouldn’t recommend syncing right now especially if you have a lot of information to process - Ancestry is doing a lot of maintenance at the moment and this could cause issues with your file. Mackiev have set the ‘sync weather report’ to Orange as a warning to be cautious. nandag - 2019-10-25 17:31:00 |
| Thank you nandag. (Sorry, I forgot I'd asked this question, so have only just come back to it. My apologies.) deecee2 - 2019-11-04 15:48:00 |
