Does anyone dry their own bread in the oven for breadcrumbs? i do, but only as i need them. Was wanting to know if anyone keeps them stored in a jar, if so do they keep well>

I've never dried the bread. I just blitz older bread into fresh breadcrumbs then use them to egg and breadcrumb whatever. Bit messier but far nicer flavour than dried. Freeze any extra in suitable amounts for future use. Defrost first but only takes a few minutes.

I do the same as wasgonna & sometimes I put fresh herbs in as well & it freezes just fine.

I too just freeze them but I also make up several lots of stuffing, shape into a cylinder then freeze them so I don’t have to make stuffing every time I cook a chicken

I dry bread cut into small squares slowly in the oven, crush them, and keep them in an airtight jar in the pantry cupboard. They last for ages.

My fave Wiener Schnitzel coating (which freezes well) is fresh breadcrumbs, masses of parsley & other fresh herbs, Origanum, Sage, Thyme, with a dollop of curry powder ( a bit of Borage goes well as it makes a lovely glutinous sort of layer ...hard to describe) ...in fact sometimes it's a really green coating & it's always been a requested dinner when I have the nieces & nephews over.
It's a bit of a fiddle for a few kids, flour, beaten egg & coat, but it's better for the resting.
& of course it must be fried with an element of butter plus oil
It's probably not the healthiest, but the herbs make it so ...right? ;o)
& of course a salad ...has to be OK as an occasional treat for the healthy eating zealots ...maybe?
I often host meetings & I cut the crust off the sandwiches, so I use them along with stale bread pop it in the freezer for the next time I feel like a 'healthy' fix.

I often add Parmesan cheese to breadcrumbs for coating and chilli flakes or lemon zest depending on what I’m cooking

Schnitzel is a favourite meal of ours, I do this too with the fresh crumbs and herbs, very tasty and crisps up beaut. Thing is, we have got rid of our chooks who used to get the stale bread, and i was throwing a fair bit in the rubbish, so I thinks to meself, do crumbs keep well in a jar in the cupboard.

Have you tried adding a bit of curry powder to the herb coating, it's really good.

I make croutons (usually herb and garlic) in my airfryer and store them in a jar. When breadcrumbs are required for a recipe, I just pulse a few in the processor.

I buy bread for crumbs, crumb the whole loaf and freeze. The bread I crumb is different to the bread I eat.

I dry them the same way articferrit #6 does, and they do indeed last for ages. I have a glass jar of them in the pantry that I've had for months and they're fine.

...or dukkha? Works well on white fish.

I now breadcrumb the strips of chicken breast, adding curry powder, dessicated coconut, turmeric garam masala, etc., etc and fry, for a quick curry. Fry the onions etc and then add the cooked chicken cut up then add the left over breadcrumbs to the curry and the coconut cream which thickens it up nicely.

I sit the bread on the bench until its dry and pop it in the processor when its all dried. I store in a jar on the bench. If you were worried about storing them this way you could always pop them in a ziplock bag and suck out the air and put it in the freezer.
