Does anyone know someone who lives in Scotland?

#Post
1

I am very much wanting to find as much information on my Grandad who I never met and my mum only ever spent a very limited time with him between the ages of 10 - 25years old before he died and she came to NZ shortly afterwards. I know basic things about him like names of his family the address he lived at his whole life and they he was in the merchant Navy all his adult life etc.I am a amateur searching any on the net and even more above my head understanding how government web sites work and also that the entire search is based on the other side of the world I have had no luck.

I think my only chance is to find someone that lives in Scotland, even better Aberdeen who has at least some limited experience in searching for past people from there that could help me.

If anyone knows of anyone in Scotland that could help me in any way please could you let me know.

Find your local branch of the NZSG
https://www.genealogy.org.nz/branches--area-contacts_55

or contact their Scottish Interest Group
https://www.genealogy.org.nz/Scottish_210.aspx

Either will be able to help you get started with Scottish family history.

If you would like to post his name here we could maybe look on the various resources we have.

I am an Aberdonian and can recommend the Aberdeen and Northeast Scotland Family History Society (anesfhs) They have extensive records. I am happy to try to help if I can.

Hello I.e ,
I've just found your message. I am not from Fyvie but have a lot of relatives from there, mainly Beatons. I don't know of any Forsyths.

Thanks for your reply. No Beatons on our side that I am aware of.
