Orphanage / home for wayward kids in Epsom 1980s

I've asked here before (some time ago) but still hunting.
In 1983 when I was a teenager I met some other teens who were living in this two storey house which I am sure was in St Andrews Rd, Epsom.
I remember driving up a hill - St Andrews Rd has several but there are no houses that look like what I remember near the top of any of them.
It may have been on a side road off St Andrews Rd, my memory just isn't great on this one.
The house was elevated from the footpath with a set of stone steps leading up to the front porch, and was painted light blue.
There was a boy there called Max who told me he hated being there. Unfortunately I can't remember the names of the two girls I met.
I have no idea if the place was run by an organization, if it was a private home for foster kids or what.
Just hoping someone may remember, it's a long shot but I don't know where else to look or inquire.

It sounds like The Glade, run by the late Father Felix Donnelly who died earlier this week.

Eleven former residents of The Glade in the inner Auckland suburb of Epsom........

Former residents of a home for troubled kids have launched a $500,000 lawsuit against the Government for claims of physical and sexual abuse.

The doors of the historic homestead were closed for the last time in the late 1990s and it was razed in a suspected arson in 2003.

Good suggestions folks but I don't think this is it. The house wasn't this big, and wasn't this shape. It was more of your average two storey family home, probably built in the 1940s (?) and didn't have a driveway access to the front door as seen in the photo in the Herald article.
Damnit I just can't remember exactly where it was.

No it didn't seem like it from your description of having stone steps leading up to it.

I think you mean Carlile House - that's in Ponsonby. This place was in Epsom. It could have been a foster type home like CYFS homes. That's a very good point. I might make an OIA request with Oranga Tamariki.

Childhaven was in Epsom. Was a home for unmarried mothers but could have evolved to some sort of welfare home.
