1 | Alfred George (b 1847) and Walter Charles(b 1849) in London to Edward and Maria Louisa Ashley (nee Larkin). Alfred married Alice Annie Field in 1875 in London and they had son Herbert in 1879 (died 1880). After that cannot find him anywhere, although Alice is with her mum in two subsequent census rolls designated as married. Alice seems? to have died in 1945 as a widow (also in 1939 list as such). As for Walter, there are Australian and NZ police gazette notices dated 1880 where he is wanted for embezzlement as an employee of a London firm. Gives full name and mentions there is supposed brother in Melbourne. Have tried death and electoral rolls in Australia - no matches - where to from here - any suggestions? 4 | Yes Crab I did some research under George. In the Baptism entry for his son he is described as a wine merchant and I wondered if he travelled into Europe or elsewhere and was not therefore on the census rolls with Alice. Other thought was that the death of their son somehow upset the marriage and they separated. As far as I can see there were no other children and although Alice is on subsequent census rolls as married and a hotel housekeeper, she never remarried, even after being widowed - date unknown.. Referring to his bro - in the last English census he is on Walter is described as stockbrokers clerk age 21. (This was 1871 when he was still living at home). I have had several "go's" at this mystery of the two bros with little success. The police gazette entries are new this time. Capricorngirl mlarkin - 2019-07-12 09:49:00 |
