| There’s a transcript of a WILL for Samuel YOUNG of East Chinnock, Somerset dated 24 Feb 1830. To his son Richard (a farmer) he leaves parcels of land namely ‘Westonbury’ and ‘Hencker’s Hill’ near Odcombe, Somerset. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/1040968851.jpg https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/1040967770.jpg ironthrone990 - 2019-05-17 09:42:00 |
| No hits for "Henckers Hill" at British Library Newspapers stock - 2019-05-17 16:15:00 |
| One of the difficulties I'm having, is deciphering the name of Hill on the survey map as well. ironthrone990 - 2019-05-17 17:21:00 |
| I think your options are plausible as they're all in the same geographical area. Are you able to get a copy of the original to see if the spelling has been transcribed properly? rednicnz - 2019-05-17 20:53:00 |
| lovely part of Somerset. my sister used to live nearby at Misterton...wonder if nearby Yeovil could help you out, maybe a museum there or even at Crewkerne. names didn't seem to change for small areas like that would have been in those days.. neich - 2019-05-17 21:09:00 |
| check up wikipedia after 20th May its down until then for the Henckers Hill, maybe listed. I can ask my sister if there is a museum or the like Historical Society in Crewkerne as well, she now lives in OZ.. did some moving around the globe lady! neich - 2019-05-17 21:19:00 |

| A big thank you for your feedback and information. rednicnz - at this stage I don't have a copy of the original WILL. I discovered the transcribed version of the Will on an Ancestry tree. This person is a DNA match to my DH. So I've sent an introductory message hoping they'll reply so I can raise the question about the original document. neich and stock - I believe I found another record indicating 'Westbury' is indeed the correct place. Samuel YOUNG married Joan RING. I believe Westbury once belonged to her grandfather. A baptism entry on UK FreeReg reveals 'Jno son of John & Joan RING was baptized at Westbury, Odcombe, at their house on 10 Apr 1711. What looks to be an original parish record (on FMP) indicates the same, with just a slight difference. A second hand-written entry shows another child (Jno Pesler) was also baptized at the same time and place - his parents are from Montacute and likely to be related. More digging is required. stock - thank you again, for the links and the walk leaflet. Every new piece of info adds more colour to DH's family history story. ironthrone990 - 2019-05-18 08:01:00 |
| Ooops, the date of baptism is 29 Mar 1711, not 10 Apr... ironthrone990 - 2019-05-18 09:00:00 |
