Lol......they're going to sell us plastic containers so they can cut down on plastics......
Yes, I take my own bags, don't use plastic bin liners at home, but I refuse to buy Sistema plastics ......what's wrong with wrapping deli goods in paper?

I understand what you are saying - however it is a tad difficult to wrap ready made coleslaw and potato salad in paper so I guess the containers will come in handy for those that buy such stuff.

Lol....you're right, didn't think of that. why aren't glass containers being promoted though? Maybe because they last too long and the manufacturers don't have on going sales.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge animal lover, hate seeing the rubbish in the oceans and the massive rubbish pollution. I do what I can to help in my small way, but I do get a bit cynical about the supermarkets and big business.
For example, in the bad old days of plastic carrier bags the supermarkets had to bulk purchase them and they were presumably built into the cost of our groceries, Exit the bags, no reduction in the price of our goods......funny that.

Perhaps the answer is to make your own coleslaw and potato salad at home. Oh, for the simple days when people had time to do that!

Living alone I like small containers at deli. Gives me a chance to try different things. Time is not always a factor

That is a good idea. I used to get upset way back in the dark ages that I couldn't use my own containers. I never buy any of the sweetened savoury products from the Serve Over Deli anyway. Apart from stuffed peppers, I can't remember the last time I bought anything from one so no need for me to go carting my own containers around most of the time. I am more than happy to make my own coleslaw and other salads. They aren't particular hard to do.

Hmm, a scoop of coleslaw or potato salad might be an issue in paper.
Or the hot chicken....

Good Idea, it's how it used to be once.

I have been taking my own containers for years, saves unpacking at home. No big deal

....my question too. so do we line up outside the butcher dept, with the packet of sausages that are wrapped up on a tray, and ask the butcher to undo and put in my container. Imagine the qeue on a busy sat/sun????

All adhesives can be removed with oil. Try dabbing some vegetable oil on the label, leave for a few minutes, wipe off. Easy as.

And they arnt going to reuse that tray of theirs, it'll just end up in the rubbish, where as I imagine if any of us took it home it would at least go into the recycling.

The easy way for the supermarkets to implement this would be to change to labels with peelable adhesive that can easily be removed as these are readily available.

If everyone that changed to their own containers and had a label stuck on it with the price etc asked at the counter.. Why don't you change to peelable adhesive on your labels so we can easily remove our labels? they might look at it, however...

It may cost them very slightly more.
Dodgy people will swap labels around or remove them, so a new tamper proof design and die will need to be made.
They will need to keep removable labels as a 2nd inventory item and have a dedicated printer so they don't get them mixed up with permanent adhesive labels.

Plastic labels would be a bad idea.
Std paper labels exactly like they use now, but with peelable adhesive would be the way to go.
