1 | Thomas Goodman B 1813 Lezant, Cornwall came to Adelaide, Australia and married Eliza Ware Cavenett (B 1823 Gloustershire or Cornwall). Eliza was previously married to John Cavenett and he previously to Eliza Slumen. Thomas stated he was a carpenter and widower at the time of the marriage, however his wife Elizabeth Congdon Goodman and three children still alive and living with his father, another Thomas Goodman at Lezant around that time. I can track Thomas' movements around the Eaglehawk goldmines and his abandonment of Eliza and her children, however cannot find out how he got to Australia. Not because there aren't any records but because I cannot prove which Thomas Goodman he is. Is he the Thomas Goodman from the infamous farm labourer Swing burnings? Both Eliza and he lived in Launceston Tasmania at times and also used Launceston Cornwall as a previous place they were from, however Launceston, Cornwall is the nearest city to Lezant. Brick wall? How did they both arrive in Adelaide from Cornwall? I suspect not convicts. Any experts out there? Edited by shazza171 at 12:41 pm, Tue 12 Mar shazza171 - 2019-03-12 12:40:00 |
