2 | rotorgirl, I haven't done a search through my many recipe books but I recall my Mum occasionally buying a slice called Bridal Slice/Square and I think that fits your description of and maybe the name of the recipe you're wanting. 4 | I rember this well as a child in bakery’s AND only recently found one in Geraldine tea rooms Boy talk about bring back memories. I’ve just turned 55 BTW, when I was young times were very different to today ! I don’t feel old at all - Who remembers darned socks ?? As I understand it they used any old cake or bread or slice etc that was stale to bulk out the fruit. I have found something similar on google just now and will paste the site.
