Any really yummy ham glaze I should try this year?

#Post

I did the apricot jam, brown sugar glaze last year and that was very good, but is there a better one I could try this year, any suggestions gratefully received. I saw a tropical glazed ham recipe somewhere recently, sounded rather nice/different, wish I had kept it. TIA

Simmer all 5 mins, till begins to thicken. Coat prepared ham bake 180'C 90 mins, brushing each 20 mins.

That sounds nice, is it mustard powder? Im assuming it is. And any marmalade flavour?

I think this is the tropical glaze recipe I read in a local paper. I like the sound of it, other than the fennel seeds, not a big aniseed flavour fan. I guess they and the sesame seeds are more for decoration anyway.

I use any marmalade flavour and use grainy mustard not powder. Is really nice but I think mine uses sherry but any alcohol is probably nice too.

Cool thanks, I've got a few jars of lime marmalade that I made last summer, could sieve out the chunks/peel (there is a lot of it and I didnt cut it fine enough) and use that, could get some sherry off of mum, She drinks it where as a I dont. I think i'm going to end up doing two hams this year. One of my dads for xmas day, and then go halves with my mum with one to just eat after xmas. Might try both glazes and see which I prefer.

we do marmalade and brown sugar
peel in the marmalade is a nice little bonus
the whiskey idea sounds nice but would more likely end up in the cook than on the ham
we aren't mustard fans so don't use it

No...colemans, in the jar.
Any marmalade, although probably not lime.

I don’t really have a recipe but I use ginger marmalade, grainy mustard and orange juice or whisky

Well im in the middle of cooking/glazing my ham. Settled on Apricot jam, brown sugar and dijon mustard. From the little bits of glazed fat that have fallen off it is a very good choice. I'm really struggling to get it in and out of the oven though....its very heavy and awkward. Oh well only one more re-glaze and another 20mins in the oven and then i can pull it out for the last time. I've actually spread towels out on the floor around the oven cause i have visions of it slipping off the tray/rack onto the floor, at least that way if I did drop it i'd only have to pick off clean towel fluff rather than dog and cat hair.....lol.

I usually do half sweet thai chilli sauce and half passionfruit pulp, its lovely, but what could I add to change it up a bit?

I have a small pre-cooked ham that just needs reheating... can I still glaze a precooked one if it only needs 30-40 minutes heating? Sorry not very experienced in this kind of cooking.

Hi can you please tell me how much jam mustard and sugar to use? And can I use mustard powder? Never glazed ham before but decided this year I'm going to ????

Last year I glazed with the following and it was delicious.
3 tbsp wholegrain mustard
1 cup maple syrup
2 cups crushed pineapple.
Mix and gently heat.
Score ham and stud with cloves and pour glaze over ham.
Pour a cup of water into the bottom of the pan to prevent burning.
Baste every 15 mins - oven at 160- approx 1 1/2 hours until ham heated through.

Too right you can, that's what most of us do, glaze a precooked ham, go for it.

Make one up, marmalade, orange or lemon juice, brown sugar, whisky or bourbon, chilli sauce, mustard, plum jam, honey, golden syrup. So, you want it to mix to a thickish sauce consistency, of anything you want sweet, sour, flavour, and a bit of mustard, remove the skin and leave a layer of fat, score it into diamond shapes, push a clove into each diamond if you want. put a third of the glaze on and a bit on water in the bottom of the dish, bake as above, brush more glaze on and keep basting etc. Line the dish with tin foil and up the sides, it makes cleaning up easier. You cant get it wrong.

I used one from Food in a Minute this year:

1/2 c orange juice
1/2 c Maple syrup
1/4 c Grain Mustard
Just mix together and baste the ham every 15 mins. It was lovely.
