I might be putting my neck on the chopping block, but... Facebook! I have found distant relatives, such as descendants of family who did not emigrate to New Zealand, plus relatives in New Zealand. From a third cousin in New Zealand I am getting a lot of information and photographs. Well worth the time to do a search!

There is another way to order certs from antony lambert caled C5D
http://www.c5d.co.uk/ or antonylambert@c5d.co.uk
He charges £13.25 but emails the image 1st then posts the original which is very helpful for NZ He also searches if unsure if correct?

Additional tips for searching PapersPast (or any similar newspaper website):

1) go back often - new publications are added regularly, or existing publications might have the available years extended
2) if you aren't having any luck searching on the name, then try searching on the town instead - eg I couldn't find anything about Andrew Duggan, however I found his death notice when I searched on Drybread (the mining town where he lived).
3) try searching for the names/surnames of other family members than the one you are looking for - often wives/married sisters were only referred to as Mrs X, not by their first names.
4) Try narrowing down the area (eg just selecting Otago newspapers) or narrowing the timeframe, to help narrow down the results.
5) reporters did (and still do!) get things wrong. Even if the info doesn't match exactly with what you have already, don't necessarily write it off just yet.
