Not as motivated this time

#Post
1

The first lock down in 2020 I cleared all my UfOs in the first week. Of course all the UFOs have built up again but I can't get motivated get stuck into them. Perhaps it's not knowing how long this time. I have got scrapbooking, knitting and furniture painting to finish. Perhaps it's because I didn't have Netflix last year. Stay safe everybody.

I feel that it's so different this time. Funnily enough I am getting a few things done. Tomorrow I plan to sort out my big rimu chest - it has so many things in it which are souvenirs and precious things. Will be interesting to find how much I put back in! Like kids' drawings and so on. Who will care about them once I'm gone? Probably no-one. Also our engagement and wedding cards and those things called 'telegrams' we got for our wedding. 51 years ago! Who will want them? Sigh, it is difficult.

yapper, maybe you could put all the cards and telegrams into a school scrapbook. I'm sure if they are all together for easily handling someone in your family will keep it and hand it down. Emails just don't cut it for lovely things to hand down do they. I've got my grandchildrens drawings in clear files in a drawer so they will all get their own, what they choose to do with them who knows. Good luck with your sorting.

yapper, I am finding the same thing. Today I am going through a large plastic storage box of things that belonged to my late Aunt. There are so many photos and most I have no idea who they are. Also badges from various lodges and her favourite soft toys etc. Already my adult children have said they don't want anything that was in the box, and I find it hard to just throw them away, but they would be of no use to anyone. I still have my engagement, wedding, baby cards from 50 years ago - just can't bring myself to chuck them. But the funny thing was I looked through them a couple of years ago and couldn't remember some of the people who had sent them.

creamhouse, I feel your pain! If it is pain. I too have people I don't know, but I think they were friends of my parents at the time. But I fear my kids wouldn't want to keep them.
And forucci, great ideas from you, thank you. I have a clearlight file just waiting for something, so I might just do what you suggest.
But I didn't get onto it today. Instead we went for a walk and tidied up something else, my present box! Some things will never be given to people so I have kept them aside and will tell kids and gkids to grab what they want. Or they will go to op shop or Christmas boxes at foodbanks or whatever.

You need a historian in the family. I have a niece with a PhD in history and we are not allowed to throw out anything remotely linked to family history!
I have 4 large bins of photos papers etc which need sorting which I just might start if the lockdown extends.
I think not knowing how long lockdown will last this time makes it harder to start bigger projects.

I buy the black paper albums from opshops and put the old black and white photos in them and write the names etc with a white pen like the 'old' days. I did my sons one each of my fathers war time photos then printed off when he joined up off the computer and aged it all with antique linen die. As he was in signals in the RAF in Egypt, Libya and Turkey to name a few he had lots of photos. Thank goodness for copiers, then they all get the photos.

It seems to me that if you are one of the oldest in the family, & YOU don't know who the people are, no-one else will either so get brave & BIFF them!

Although I keep a lot of stuff, sometimes I find it an enormous relief to get rid of 'stuff'. Especially when I think that one day I might need to downsize in a hurry, at least some of it has gone.

Agree also.. Last Lockdown I finished the family tree, sorted out stuff for my new granddaughter, dated, named & filed/boxed family photos & crockery, had a BIG tidy up of all craft stuff. Very productive & felt great ... This time.. Can't seem to get the same motivation, maybe because all that is left to do is the.. Pile of " 1/2 done stuff that must be competed before I am allowed to even consider opening a new project.. Who knows...

I can't find my facemask making kit. It has all the patterns, hair ties and pipecleaners in it.

I have just put everything together to paint an old coffee table. I guess the way for me to get rid of some of the clutter is to finish =some of the bigger projects. I can't see us going back to normal very soon so i will just have to find my motivation from somewhere.

My top tip for all "treasures in the box that you can bear to biff",
take a photo of each item and then go online and create a Photobook.
When I end up in a resthome, I can take out my photobook (hardcopy) and flick through the pages of my past. When you create the photobook you can type in names/dates/comments etc so no info is lost.
It's a damn shame our kids don't want any of my "precious past" eg. their school work/art etc lol but that's life.

I am waiting for 4pm to see what I will start doing. Sorting 2 big boxes of photos that will be level 4 or painting that can be left on the trestle table for each step if it's level 3. At the same time knitting throughout the levels.

I went through my parents and grandparents photos, and if I didn't know who they were I threw them out. Still have a lot with family members. None of my 3 sons seem very interested in family history, so goodness knows what will happen to them when I'm no longer around!!

Maybe we need to do a before and after session. Just to give us each a kick in the butt.

I need to undo an knitted piece, but have been procrastinating...

Feeling smug! Finished 3 UFO's today. This has made me keen to finish off 2 heritage albums the rest of this week. Also have knitting to sew up but that can wait until our knitting group is allowed to start up at the library. I hope not everyone has been as slack as me this lockdown.

I kept just about everything from our wedding. When we had wedding anniversary the thing people got excited about was the gift list, what people had given us for wedding presents. Some of the gifts I had to explain. eg fireside set. Husband was posted to Waiouru so we knew we would need that.
People loved seeing who brought what
No I could not fit into my wedding dress, daughter wore it on the day

slimgym what a great idea I bet you could do a beautiful album with all your bits like that. Anything that was too bulky zyou could take a photo of and put it in. Just a suggestion.
