Please for give me if I am asking a stupid question but I am new to this. Is it as easy to get English birth and death certificates as it is to get NZ ones? And which government department issues them please? (When this message board disappears i will join a NZ genealogy society.)

I haven't done it for ages but it wasn't difficult. It cost 9.25 pounds and was sent by snail mail.

They email them as pdf's these days and the price has gone down! 7 pounds!

Do be aware that the death certificates don't have much information on them - especially compared to here. So check that what you're looking for is on them before you order. Here's a summary:

Kaiser - do you have an Ancestry membership? A lot (but not all) of marriage certificates have been scanned so you may luck out and find what you are looking for without having to purchase the certificate.

Happy to search if you don't have a sub.
