This from a trademe email.....

We just wanted to give you a heads up about a change we're making to our message board.

On Tuesday 25 February, the following topics and threads will be closed:

• General discussion
• Environment
• Kaikoura recovery
• Genealogy
• Movies & TV
• Music
• New age and spirituality
• Opinion & politics
• Recipes

The message board was originally introduced as a way for members to help each other use the site. Over the years things have moved away from that, and we want to bring it back.

Going forward, the message board will be a place for general trading advice, category suggestions, or anything that helps inform others about something Trade Me related. Chat outside of this will be removed.

We know we have a small group of dedicated members who post in these topics regularly, and we hope you can keep chatting with each other about general life in established forums.

Most of them are. Grab any links you can find now while you still can. What a silly retrograde idea. Those of us here before the extra categories were made will remember what a boring wasteland it was and how little incentive there was to come and look, and that often drove our purchasing.

so how do we protest that not everyone who uses Trademe message boards are on Facebook to use that Genealogy service available, it seems all they are interested in is making money out of the site

Having received a message about the closure of message boards in cluding genealogy....

There is a genealogy mailing list for New Zealand, filled with very helpful people. This new list replaces an old mailing list called rootsweb.

Just click on this link:

there is a join button down the bottom.

Yeah, there's a few reasons why that might be desirable, especially from TM's shallow, profit-driven standpoint.

I wouldn't join that one as it is all there for others to see your email address even without being a member, the easiest way for spammers to spam you

If they are going to remove Genealogy they have at least left the category it rightfully belongs in - Crafts and Hobbies.

Probably no money for T/M from this topic. While they may think that, people spending a few hours here are more likely to do their buying and selling through T/M. When there is less to attract people here, they will find other sites to spend their time and consequently their money. End result will probably be declining turnover for T/M.
Their gamble.

yep I have already suggested one but think there might be problems for the the person who has started up the website if the bandwidth can't handle the load or amount of members that join
